I recently made Christmas dresses for "my girls" and I always make matching purses. Christmas is no different, and I thought a Santa hat would be perfect. These were so simple to make and I used the scraps from the dresses. I can't show the dresses yet, because mommy hasn't seen them.<br />
<br />
I chose not to make a closure on this one and just allowed it to flop over. I thought the closure would take away from the look.<br />

This is the view opened.<br />

The focus fabric is red pinwale corduroy. White fleece is used for the "brim" and a soft red cotton for the lining. I thought about a bell for the tip of the hat but liked the little white ball better.<br />
<br />
I am working on bows to complete the outfit. I'll post all the details when mommy has seen the dresses.<br />
<br />
Have a great Monday!<br />

When I did finally unbox it, it didn't work. I called customer service and they walked me through some diagnostics and when that failed, they shipped a new iron. How's that for great customer service??<br />
<br />
The iron presses very well, much better than my Rowenta. It gets very, very hot and has a tremendous amount of steam. However, it is like any other iron in that when I use it for extended periods of time, it will cool down and start spitting. I was pressing large amounts of linen fabric when it started spitting and left a brown stain on my white linen. Then I noticed the light had come on indicating that it was not at the correct temperature.<br />
<br />
<br />
This is my setup. Excuse my really stained press top. It gets a lot of use!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmx7cyaQm6cXLphM5bimn-o1LqU37mLQZZ-XoBBdyASQIeySYtUhq0hyrP-W6iavT0yIcQCty-37ETHI8vrhdn3HMwe2bZKnAKGDp7ynlbMSoucxhOG4c7DLIJA2roGLqk3oO65leSjGqc/s1600/DSC_0533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="299" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmx7cyaQm6cXLphM5bimn-o1LqU37mLQZZ-XoBBdyASQIeySYtUhq0hyrP-W6iavT0yIcQCty-37ETHI8vrhdn3HMwe2bZKnAKGDp7ynlbMSoucxhOG4c7DLIJA2roGLqk3oO65leSjGqc/s320/DSC_0533.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
If you plan on buying any type of gravity feed iron, I have a few tips:<br />
<br />
<u><b>First</b></u>, see how the water tube and the electric cord are bound together with clips? Those clips are supposed to keep them from getting tangled up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizU1Cv5CDE6hkVhWAVbTMFRll2F-ovpgAPj5pYK4Ifm9aBi1tfLqMulcD-AjwoWE7SjylSSw8AIo6E8_Yfwy4U4k71kSzi85smz3ElOnPOJ5FZH1yINUIwcn8mNTuefCglgYiFJ_2K9_gE/s1600/DSC_0535.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="299" data-original-width="448" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizU1Cv5CDE6hkVhWAVbTMFRll2F-ovpgAPj5pYK4Ifm9aBi1tfLqMulcD-AjwoWE7SjylSSw8AIo6E8_Yfwy4U4k71kSzi85smz3ElOnPOJ5FZH1yINUIwcn8mNTuefCglgYiFJ_2K9_gE/s320/DSC_0535.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That doesn't always work. Why?<br />
<br />
The water tube is hanging from the water reservoir from the ceiling.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj6kbveF7OOmGBT7eReha2-fwgqodgCfYbqrWEQgLk81GGGARu05NP-KWPhXNBpLJiTvwwJV61Qg1-g6l0dM88aNlAPwolVyuynb61xz80DbHrqeeSs9UABQhR0kyh_6TkaPnMwtO3BbjV/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="299" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj6kbveF7OOmGBT7eReha2-fwgqodgCfYbqrWEQgLk81GGGARu05NP-KWPhXNBpLJiTvwwJV61Qg1-g6l0dM88aNlAPwolVyuynb61xz80DbHrqeeSs9UABQhR0kyh_6TkaPnMwtO3BbjV/s320/DSC_0536.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
While the cord is plugged in below. It's the gold outlet at the bottom of the picture. I had my electrician install it before I put in the hard wood. Sure wish I had taken a little closer shot. But you get the idea.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JScYCWrRgCB3oOy-S7NKqSQ6sFiEw4ox6u2Uk8EZ654fj4TOmDIjj5aykafVZPaaGokl33Rf8eKLPFKCqm5qEuu4X-85egtLDD4n4LHi9QOBWy0gj2Pv3IXxJT8ztACErwC8aKZozx29/s1600/DSC_0534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="299" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JScYCWrRgCB3oOy-S7NKqSQ6sFiEw4ox6u2Uk8EZ654fj4TOmDIjj5aykafVZPaaGokl33Rf8eKLPFKCqm5qEuu4X-85egtLDD4n4LHi9QOBWy0gj2Pv3IXxJT8ztACErwC8aKZozx29/s320/DSC_0534.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
If I could do this over again, I would have put my outlet in the ceiling next to where the reservoir hangs so they'd both be in the same place, and the cord is plenty long enough to do that. They would still tangle a bit but not nearly as much. It is also easier to determine placement. I laid out my room with tape before I laid the hardwood and got all the furniture placed. That's hard to do when there is nothing else in the room. If it were in the ceiling, it would make moving around my work table much easier.<br />
<br />
<u><b>Second</b></u>, be absolutely certain you place the iron completely on the rubber mat. If you don't, it will scorch the surface beneath. I've made that mistake twice.<br />
<br />
<u><b>Third</b></u>, this iron does not have an automatic shutoff and the light goes off when it's hot, not the other way around. I like the no shutoff feature, so I don't have to wait for it to heat up again in between pressings. Get in the habit of turning it off as soon as you know you won't need it anymore. You can also put a note on your light switch or your door reminding you to turn it off when you leave the room. Better yet, have your outlet connected to the switch, so you only have to turn the switch off to turn everything off.<br />
<br />
<u><b>Fourth</b></u>, I do not like having to climb up on top of my table to turn the knob on my water reservoir when I need steam. The instructions say to always turn the valve off when not in use. So I climb up to turn it on and again when I turn it off. It has to be 3 feet above the table, so I can't lower it. I need some sort of pulley that I can lower it more easily.<br />
<br />
All in all, this is a fantastic iron if you pay attention to the heat while using it. It eliminates the need to have a boiler sitting on your table and getting in the way of your pressing.<br />
<br />
Hope this helps if you are looking to buy a gravity feed iron.<br />
<br />
Happy Tuesday!<br />

I bought the <a href="https://www.toocooltshirtquilts.com/how-to-make" target="_blank">book</a>, so I'd know exactly how to make it. Although, a little math is really all you need.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I had originally planned to make the traditional t-shirt quilt that is backed with interfacing and bordered with cotton fabric. We decided we liked this layout instead. Because I had already cut most of the t-shirts based on the other style, it took a little thought to make this work. I didn't get the layout exactly like I wanted, but I like it nonetheless. And so did Britt, and that's all that matters.<br />
<br />
I love the different size blocks.<br />

<br />
I chose an all over meandering pattern. I took it to Blessed 2 Be Quilting in Portal - just north of Statesboro. They did a fabulous job! They knew when to cross the actual print and when not to. I'd definitely recommend them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvrp1qt469uzPQcnvAO2d2o2DxVZVDhlGlx6eomzqWN3kaznvUJJtkB__qoOO11EdIEUiRBevyrr5BCJPr2EUsw2lsLUX3XfaGZiQh1LeidVTAnIPl79tM55VWnCHn9EICOQESxXXrPtp/s1600/DSC_0587.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvrp1qt469uzPQcnvAO2d2o2DxVZVDhlGlx6eomzqWN3kaznvUJJtkB__qoOO11EdIEUiRBevyrr5BCJPr2EUsw2lsLUX3XfaGZiQh1LeidVTAnIPl79tM55VWnCHn9EICOQESxXXrPtp/s320/DSC_0587.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So a couple of notes about this type of quilt. It is not backed, so you treat it just like any other knit fabric you would stitch. I used a walking foot, and that made a huge difference. The quilt is heavy <u>without </u>the interfacing. I can't imagine how heavy it would have been with it. I used warm and natural batting, a cotton backing, and a cotton binding. I also used a polyester thread rather than a quilting thread to stitch the blocks together.<br />
<br />
Also, I did not use her instructions to bind. I used the same method for binding that I use for all my other quilts. I used one long strip and folded it in half. I stitched the raw edges and folded it over to the back. I hand stitched it down. I was a bit nervous to hand stitch this quilt, but it went very well.<br />
<br />
I made some mistakes on this one, but now that I have one under my belt, I feel very confident in the next one.<br />
<br />
As for the book, if you are an experienced quilter, you may not agree with some of the instructions. I basically used her method to cut the blocks but we laid them out on the floor in lieu of drawing out on graph paper. We needed to see the layout and we couldn't get the visualization without physically laying it out. And quite frankly, Britt had an idea of how she wanted this laid out. We also didn't have enough of certain size blocks and I didn't want to make the quilt larger just to accommodate symmetry in the block sizes. I found the instructions a little confusing too. <br />
<br />
From there, I just proceeded the way I do every other quilt until the end. I did use a temporary binding and would highly recommend you don't skip this step. It keeps the quilt top from stretching during quilting. <br />
<br />
I would recommend the book if you want to make this type of quilt. It's worth it just to get the proper layout.<br />

<br /><br />I made this tote bag for my MIL for Christmas. When I started on this post, I realized, I made her one in 2014. Oh joy! You can't have too many totes can you? I think not. But I do wish the time frame had been a bit longer. Oh well.<br /><br />This is the same tote bag from "Home Stuff" by Linda Lum DeBono. I made <a href="http://justgivemeaneedle.blogspot.com/2014/12/tote-bag.html">this</a> one and <a href="http://justgivemeaneedle.blogspot.com/2013/10/tote-bag-with-matching-crochet-clutch.html">this</a> one. As you can see, I love this pattern. <br /><br />I chose not to quilt this one and instead used a heavy stabilizer on the focus fabric to keep it standing up. The fabrics are quilting cottons that I found at Quarterdeck Quilts in Springfield.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The inside is so roomy.</div>

My Christmas sewing is almost complete. I have two shirts left to do for my son, and then I can work on my bedroom window treatments that have been on hold for a year. I'll be glad to get those completed.</div>

</div>
There are quite a few tutorials out there on how to install a zipper in a piped pillow. Trust me, I've tried most all of them. And after many trial and error approaches (mostly error) using these methods, I've come up with a hybrid way of using bits and pieces from some of these and incorporating them with my own ideas. I thought I'd share my way with you.<br />
<br />
If this way doesn't work for you, keep looking and trying until you do. It's really about patience and practice. I'll even give you my tried and true way of matching patterns.<br />
<br />
I'm assuming you know how to sew a basic pillow with a zipper. There are plenty of tutorials out there if not. I'm only going to show you the basics for installing a zip when there is piping involved.<br />
<br />
The first thing to do is press <u><b>one</b></u> side of the invisible zipper flat. At this point, you should already have your piping attached to the pillow front or back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVC5PpiO8WfHsWz8XWXFpvtrVZSs24BrcGQuzopOzC0bd0HW8ZKtKbNGmDNEjGPrf_G-UPVdX2S874G3mpSOdicFBRIwx66sKujO858y4L698Rnukz9ZFMfibqtAzs33SjyfJjEup6xJvr/s1600/DSC_0518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVC5PpiO8WfHsWz8XWXFpvtrVZSs24BrcGQuzopOzC0bd0HW8ZKtKbNGmDNEjGPrf_G-UPVdX2S874G3mpSOdicFBRIwx66sKujO858y4L698Rnukz9ZFMfibqtAzs33SjyfJjEup6xJvr/s320/DSC_0518.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I like using a piping or welting foot on my machine. They aren't terribly expensive and well worth their weight in gold if you do a lot of piping. I have already serged the edges of each pillow section where the zipper will go.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiixVFZtvwICFCLUpDnUTIjgTIt0T0Edl0A-UwiWOKHArW6_pA_LD6UpEVtSVotio9q5nUog1gdI2-zu5tLEeYaWKqQ5UiQWMfVhBbw5h4oPFQmXmm_o9TwTq_aJhX_O-tdmtAAri3rFw8H/s1600/DSC_0519.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiixVFZtvwICFCLUpDnUTIjgTIt0T0Edl0A-UwiWOKHArW6_pA_LD6UpEVtSVotio9q5nUog1gdI2-zu5tLEeYaWKqQ5UiQWMfVhBbw5h4oPFQmXmm_o9TwTq_aJhX_O-tdmtAAri3rFw8H/s320/DSC_0519.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I measure in 2-3" from each edge (depending on the pillow size) and mark my zipper placement. This is where I will start and stop stitching. This is done on both pillow pieces.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVCac6TlPFSwXHz3jzwtBz0hHuhvzH4qAQbpm9lGF6oRkxvIeTODIJNNVd_zN56fDT-VQEXM-vZVoUlSf_hSdx0CAc2u0o_8e8I63uD_xsgWvX39x5wBUuFSi45UIZx0gbZ7mZXkK8_Ht5/s1600/DSC_0520.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVCac6TlPFSwXHz3jzwtBz0hHuhvzH4qAQbpm9lGF6oRkxvIeTODIJNNVd_zN56fDT-VQEXM-vZVoUlSf_hSdx0CAc2u0o_8e8I63uD_xsgWvX39x5wBUuFSi45UIZx0gbZ7mZXkK8_Ht5/s320/DSC_0520.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next, line up the piping under your piping foot just like you did when you attached it. Take the flat zipper (the side you pressed flat) and put that under your piping foot and on top of your pillow edge right side down. The zipper teeth should be right on the edge of the piping and inside the groove of the piping foot. See where my skewer is pointing? My needle position is centered. I don't touch it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsVEF5KD6L8Bl26rkW65Acrlqp0e9xq4MjaeTv5z46YDFx0lp3GO8bv1QoQPegwir8cyZVP0YGsEW8WhbPQIA7Z1SZmcjNwrUYEsrj3Fm_oEnDV6HKdPsvJZN-IcMGKvfRG1y68rlPhBK/s1600/DSC_0521.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsVEF5KD6L8Bl26rkW65Acrlqp0e9xq4MjaeTv5z46YDFx0lp3GO8bv1QoQPegwir8cyZVP0YGsEW8WhbPQIA7Z1SZmcjNwrUYEsrj3Fm_oEnDV6HKdPsvJZN-IcMGKvfRG1y68rlPhBK/s320/DSC_0521.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEiGfilEIcQgPe5B340cpxMl_KxqX5M9fOhEAi6dL1gxs0vG-rTbmFV42Y_jCmRVDErpf0uDZnhO1bomrycZdCtY4S4dHtsGMhOJ10EdpYuSZszaurqa8ASIuQVkw8qVnxtnw0uZXGVhCt/s1600/DSC_0522.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEiGfilEIcQgPe5B340cpxMl_KxqX5M9fOhEAi6dL1gxs0vG-rTbmFV42Y_jCmRVDErpf0uDZnhO1bomrycZdCtY4S4dHtsGMhOJ10EdpYuSZszaurqa8ASIuQVkw8qVnxtnw0uZXGVhCt/s320/DSC_0522.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I use a skewer to gently keep the zipper in place as I stitch pressing slightly in that groove of the piping.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUU8oarZkMfhXH3SToA8NvBKVL-jIcryEWPSylsi4mR3Ohleq03SeanPEhxdS5kAroHg53fi2O8RQRAD1STIqCYZhDG1oFXflbpbQfq2o0JU0_V0kzxzJ2mMEhHBJGVdxtmzYLWPpzUYDL/s1600/DSC_0524.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUU8oarZkMfhXH3SToA8NvBKVL-jIcryEWPSylsi4mR3Ohleq03SeanPEhxdS5kAroHg53fi2O8RQRAD1STIqCYZhDG1oFXflbpbQfq2o0JU0_V0kzxzJ2mMEhHBJGVdxtmzYLWPpzUYDL/s320/DSC_0524.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is what it will look like when you have that side complete.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVtiVsvV4i1aN3RqSe_5dPtKPzZ3zDVagzjtKFqIVtypNz4BFmX2iG4TjYTqvSG2hoVg1Hg5zWTnNzONekIMwzDmC8ZcqUSV1f1wh8nB7vpB1QAYJFDpUeF1bgupAYToHembFFCG2Sskkl/s1600/DSC_0525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVtiVsvV4i1aN3RqSe_5dPtKPzZ3zDVagzjtKFqIVtypNz4BFmX2iG4TjYTqvSG2hoVg1Hg5zWTnNzONekIMwzDmC8ZcqUSV1f1wh8nB7vpB1QAYJFDpUeF1bgupAYToHembFFCG2Sskkl/s320/DSC_0525.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now the zipper is closed and marks are placed where you stopped and started stitching on the first side. I should have gotten a close up here. If you'll look where the #38 is on my cutting mat, you can just make out my red mark.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX4mTTF7N-P6TXGZppbGFiQidaf_HOpRZe_pacTYHwyxatEzVPs7EGiCaN5TI_dZXKvITcHioy-amuH0jEGW4Fk6eXR2uZnAPP9uQ9CGo-xNWJ-u25ClEfpJ-QUvAMYh2KEhdSXZmm9RQD/s1600/DSC_0528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX4mTTF7N-P6TXGZppbGFiQidaf_HOpRZe_pacTYHwyxatEzVPs7EGiCaN5TI_dZXKvITcHioy-amuH0jEGW4Fk6eXR2uZnAPP9uQ9CGo-xNWJ-u25ClEfpJ-QUvAMYh2KEhdSXZmm9RQD/s320/DSC_0528.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
In order to line up the stripes, marks will also be placed on the other side of the zipper at each stripe. There are two red marks side by side in this picture. One is my stripe mark, and the other is where the stitching started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Place the other pillow piece on top right sides facing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbcFm1egUvCaB-tlkXOAtZcqp5b5K3wTEAhaJFo9xVQvEmg9OZq_APq8Dd0kmH47wWc-nHCJRdfMl4J4En2aMbYa3Fbk8aQIVujG7NtvJFvquptkrEJoki2WzaYc9WmhRJ4XwgfsJp7RX4/s1600/DSC_0530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbcFm1egUvCaB-tlkXOAtZcqp5b5K3wTEAhaJFo9xVQvEmg9OZq_APq8Dd0kmH47wWc-nHCJRdfMl4J4En2aMbYa3Fbk8aQIVujG7NtvJFvquptkrEJoki2WzaYc9WmhRJ4XwgfsJp7RX4/s320/DSC_0530.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I love wonder tape! It's one staple I will never be without in my sewing room. It makes these projects so easy. It's my secret weapon.<br />
<br />
Place a piece of wonder tape on the pillow piece from one mark to the other (these are marks for the zipper placement). This is one side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEQjFNMD3S-FbwaCYjl0bzv8RDZuV0OBPtT4yypTH6B3e5IMX1Swk-yufemXktUyWh8-fMhsFADRilJ8QCzPdS5j6paFpZHLoUWKl-OB-rZlj3KBXqcP03ogB_j_bzc8SbDEUfbQ3lPqXC/s1600/DSC_0532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEQjFNMD3S-FbwaCYjl0bzv8RDZuV0OBPtT4yypTH6B3e5IMX1Swk-yufemXktUyWh8-fMhsFADRilJ8QCzPdS5j6paFpZHLoUWKl-OB-rZlj3KBXqcP03ogB_j_bzc8SbDEUfbQ3lPqXC/s320/DSC_0532.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yellow arrow is where the wonder tape is placed. The fabric is folded back on itself. Peel off the paper backing on the wonder tape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQPDyHwwXTpFedVIV2gZIcDRvJcwU6-F3iE0mJYm-g1NjbMnP_wDnqxpzsFAwdG5nJmRX-BK8LKLgOIbfW9iX3ht2AW5VFanRZIzWIgXsGGvilJHBsrayBDPCuqErDswpKOAF_RB7UkAPD/s1600/DSC_0531.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQPDyHwwXTpFedVIV2gZIcDRvJcwU6-F3iE0mJYm-g1NjbMnP_wDnqxpzsFAwdG5nJmRX-BK8LKLgOIbfW9iX3ht2AW5VFanRZIzWIgXsGGvilJHBsrayBDPCuqErDswpKOAF_RB7UkAPD/s320/DSC_0531.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Unzip the zipper and lay it on top of the wonder tape matching the start/stop marks and the stripe line marks. No pinning and no shifting. That zipper will stay put. Stitch that puppy on! I switch to my invisible zipper foot for this step. You could always press this side flat and use a regular zipper foot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8RDHKCq8s-UWyZv7ZRCJQP1l1y0AhnA4IvKH_Go7AmpLfxnxiskxUdGsEKi4d3hplbSevhUxCsUWBohhEdO8Gy5OIax0Y4tMmBNnS_g6Gs6b3kDqG_qImqGNkzwonsv3cvUoNDr_TUiHN/s1600/DSC_0534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8RDHKCq8s-UWyZv7ZRCJQP1l1y0AhnA4IvKH_Go7AmpLfxnxiskxUdGsEKi4d3hplbSevhUxCsUWBohhEdO8Gy5OIax0Y4tMmBNnS_g6Gs6b3kDqG_qImqGNkzwonsv3cvUoNDr_TUiHN/s320/DSC_0534.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And it should look like this. Look at those perfectly aligned stripes!! Sorry for my messy work area. I was making 6 of these when I did the tute!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HlzNqIVubM9T4u_lNndnooK8NJRNJgD8ipfje4wkP8bb4KyQqblvYkxC_ogzjHGQDuAt9l2Ck6f4DK-he0secnAnsKxPiUiz5wnEeLrOK2vCZYp-l_sJKTBxXBb9e_gvfokHdQvWj9yk/s1600/IMG_3918.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HlzNqIVubM9T4u_lNndnooK8NJRNJgD8ipfje4wkP8bb4KyQqblvYkxC_ogzjHGQDuAt9l2Ck6f4DK-he0secnAnsKxPiUiz5wnEeLrOK2vCZYp-l_sJKTBxXBb9e_gvfokHdQvWj9yk/s320/IMG_3918.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The other secret here is to stitch the opposite side next, then stitch the sides. Get out your wonder tape and put it on the side without piping. And place the two right sides together. If you are brave, just put the two sides together and pin at each stripe checking both front and back to make sure the pin hits the stripe on each at the stitch line. I recommend using the wonder tape until you've done a few. Just be sure to match your stripes whatever method you choose. I do it this way so if I have a mistake or my stripe placement is off, it's easier to rip out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
If using pins, you should have one at every stripe. Stitch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirCq4qjhEjz5YjQ40mpzkc59qZZW-IzhHOgseUXz9BGectGkzrL6QsR6W-BXSRTfN023iAIVMcGBR4gSh1-GteX6gDRxlvKftR6VEyBYME8hHgClH8x-ntR-M0zQoA8-_vtfZHyhSFmZ9c/s1600/IMG_3922.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirCq4qjhEjz5YjQ40mpzkc59qZZW-IzhHOgseUXz9BGectGkzrL6QsR6W-BXSRTfN023iAIVMcGBR4gSh1-GteX6gDRxlvKftR6VEyBYME8hHgClH8x-ntR-M0zQoA8-_vtfZHyhSFmZ9c/s320/IMG_3922.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now you have a big pillow tube!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbWUchfJAJqzYAWrPgVHDl0zv1QMxnW5a3c4L3BKqZoCvyEO297pcBiJSKNdgMwgMLrj3xPOqUc9v6t7zwBsu84WEz6TS8bzSnHPsJlXK_R8W7CJEBt9oSdcfC-5JOKTuHTI9U7Ndz99Y/s1600/IMG_3924.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbWUchfJAJqzYAWrPgVHDl0zv1QMxnW5a3c4L3BKqZoCvyEO297pcBiJSKNdgMwgMLrj3xPOqUc9v6t7zwBsu84WEz6TS8bzSnHPsJlXK_R8W7CJEBt9oSdcfC-5JOKTuHTI9U7Ndz99Y/s320/IMG_3924.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Now simply stitch the two sides (remember to open the zipper) and that's it! Marvel at your newly stitched, perfectly aligned striped, piped pillow. Say that fast 3 times!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-W4QQthLfKE9dU5tMmSShHD55ocRvhMsjGDwA_AuMq2YxQSXJvNPFs5Vcjb-2IwLGDrgVUv4VBGKIcVe4i36D1tD-zSYiuTO4uf51OcJ9nKr4de3oXsWXJ1igR2pCZtxFp-yShrdc0t44/s1600/IMG_3925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-W4QQthLfKE9dU5tMmSShHD55ocRvhMsjGDwA_AuMq2YxQSXJvNPFs5Vcjb-2IwLGDrgVUv4VBGKIcVe4i36D1tD-zSYiuTO4uf51OcJ9nKr4de3oXsWXJ1igR2pCZtxFp-yShrdc0t44/s320/IMG_3925.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I hope this method works for you. Please feel free to ask questions if I haven't made something clear.<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by!<br />

I think I'm nearly caught up now, so I thought I'd show you a few things I've accomplished over the last few weeks.<br />
<br />
This is a Children's Corner Mary De. This pattern is one of my favorites.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Ri_1651Su_1y25Jr3q84lIkGk2jMwLHSv8W7TrL8NHgr7OibS16Qb_UsYVgIE9whsqfaPNxUmRQgzcxUaMrV_YklTSA4wZ0TzhyphenhyphenpBwI0nPZh_L4MND9Z_kpTAXpO3DPtgp3JJ2yt2C4p/s1600/DSC_0535.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Ri_1651Su_1y25Jr3q84lIkGk2jMwLHSv8W7TrL8NHgr7OibS16Qb_UsYVgIE9whsqfaPNxUmRQgzcxUaMrV_YklTSA4wZ0TzhyphenhyphenpBwI0nPZh_L4MND9Z_kpTAXpO3DPtgp3JJ2yt2C4p/s320/DSC_0535.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I loved this print fabric but didn't have enough for the entire dress, so I added a black band along the bottom and trimmed it with ric rac. I also used a smocked insert.<br />
<br />
The smocking plate is from Ellen McCarn - It's called Ladybug Family<br />
<br />
This is the first time I've smocked into the arm holes on the Mary De. It was a bear. All the bulk made it impossible to turn that seam allowance to the inside. So I chose to put a bias binding around those edges instead. I like it. Just remember to cut away the seam allowance if you do this. This is also the first time I've done double piping. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTkzQSIu1xLYSQCJ7IjgF4nfzLihs8WOxhQKDTUfj21TFAspLJSokHHZ1DPMR_RBqNfuAIYqYQUW2Wp9CI8AEcg-wsPL1Os59uRJR3fPU7X-wghe3YQ2B8BozPAi3Yq1z48-pax1MhRMl/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTkzQSIu1xLYSQCJ7IjgF4nfzLihs8WOxhQKDTUfj21TFAspLJSokHHZ1DPMR_RBqNfuAIYqYQUW2Wp9CI8AEcg-wsPL1Os59uRJR3fPU7X-wghe3YQ2B8BozPAi3Yq1z48-pax1MhRMl/s320/DSC_0536.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
This has to be the best collar I've ever done. I used <a href="http://luluandannies.blogspot.com/2011/05/long-absense.html" target="_blank">Gail Doane's method</a> of adding the piping and cutting it out. I've never done it before and it took me two tries, but I love it! I'll always use this method.<br />
<br />
I had these sweet little ladybug buttons for the back closure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49rltei-Yj2cD10TGWv1s-oRzftiv3mVDjFiIpxA2aaesSUIHrc6KyXde4Lo42RGxzZrvmReGQhfr5G6RRZSvr0kaj-oMDb7swxtytdH7aK6HQDuj3HmJMFtH0ebRREzNN5-_ImmCgg_b/s1600/DSC_0539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49rltei-Yj2cD10TGWv1s-oRzftiv3mVDjFiIpxA2aaesSUIHrc6KyXde4Lo42RGxzZrvmReGQhfr5G6RRZSvr0kaj-oMDb7swxtytdH7aK6HQDuj3HmJMFtH0ebRREzNN5-_ImmCgg_b/s320/DSC_0539.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I added little ladybug buttons to the sleeves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8IPCwcTnicDBcHhUXX3AjZb-WDA7blq-egSPmxoJnZ9OFJAHSL7jMP5qX8l6YgCGuh9dwp5frTzmSucaEItfGr44YW1-OTYEhWM6UDlnF4MiN2u_Gn6b-iON35vbhBlHo22vxffZ-SHoL/s1600/DSC_0549.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8IPCwcTnicDBcHhUXX3AjZb-WDA7blq-egSPmxoJnZ9OFJAHSL7jMP5qX8l6YgCGuh9dwp5frTzmSucaEItfGr44YW1-OTYEhWM6UDlnF4MiN2u_Gn6b-iON35vbhBlHo22vxffZ-SHoL/s320/DSC_0549.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And of course she had to have matching socks. Laurie at Southern Stitches has a great <a href="http://sewnso.blogspot.com/2010/04/smocked-socks.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> for these. <br />

I've used it many times, and I never get bored.<br />
<br />
I made these two for my son for Christmas. I made the large and he typicallys wears an XL.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOVgyjvQOTZhTsftF_yyT7eGluUIv0jsKjgiKCJTczyFxjXc6Q7m7egUHgqTlaBQ2nKCBDjw9HjLUOJcu8S13GD62ryKRcQY1-64IbMUYPe07DmZztx3s9FuUGA3CmBZtWWjCJXY9Gc3vr/s1600/DSC_0562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOVgyjvQOTZhTsftF_yyT7eGluUIv0jsKjgiKCJTczyFxjXc6Q7m7egUHgqTlaBQ2nKCBDjw9HjLUOJcu8S13GD62ryKRcQY1-64IbMUYPe07DmZztx3s9FuUGA3CmBZtWWjCJXY9Gc3vr/s320/DSC_0562.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I found the bird fabric at Joann's and thought it would make perfect PJ's. The green cotton I had in my stash.<br />
<br />
<br />
I used 1" wide elastic for this pattern rather than the called for 1/2". 1/2" is just too small for grown ups in my opinion. I didn't adjust the pattern to accommodate the size increase, since most of the recipients like the pants to sit lower anyway. I serged the top edge and folded it over 1 1/4". I also ran a length of twill tape through the button openings rather than a faux ribbon. I wasn't sure about the exact waist measurement, so I erred on the large side knowing they could cinch them with the twill tape to make them smaller. You can just see the twill tape here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2cWkcBIoa1lGcci2YsK7yh3UOEp38EJ78EQuNEGBz1elzxTiJAsIsSAVTUyjIsGHxAqNmWRWebJF07HRSUwzuZm2aplest6AN7fS8LEIPM_ejeCITmAAtlAxNG92cMZ9YO2g8FyJs-7jX/s1600/DSC_0563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2cWkcBIoa1lGcci2YsK7yh3UOEp38EJ78EQuNEGBz1elzxTiJAsIsSAVTUyjIsGHxAqNmWRWebJF07HRSUwzuZm2aplest6AN7fS8LEIPM_ejeCITmAAtlAxNG92cMZ9YO2g8FyJs-7jX/s320/DSC_0563.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgedwxHFJiZTPEENbl0pdbaZNEPctINjkINxaW3-23Uw42Bpu0vSouA253w5fM-L0xppG-AKSA1erwOvCJO6Px3PNF-aWFhvpXu5jyt67hAhTTttKYwbqWylo-vLCDdN1hoKPQu5jYAavEP/s1600/DSC_0564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgedwxHFJiZTPEENbl0pdbaZNEPctINjkINxaW3-23Uw42Bpu0vSouA253w5fM-L0xppG-AKSA1erwOvCJO6Px3PNF-aWFhvpXu5jyt67hAhTTttKYwbqWylo-vLCDdN1hoKPQu5jYAavEP/s320/DSC_0564.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This pattern is unisex, so it works for women too. I made this pair for my husband's Aunt. I made the extra small in these.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjotp3ENSj2X0leC0UJt88F9NI6bgk9zMbdOuIKx7saxpzqzvCiw_lAAdsSqm_mfOfTBB_3nW9xaicvKNB8Jzl8Ghpmlgcgrdm08OuyF5rehyKU8KrK4OAojYHMPTlTNi5MT4t6q7fEHY/s1600/DSC_0565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjotp3ENSj2X0leC0UJt88F9NI6bgk9zMbdOuIKx7saxpzqzvCiw_lAAdsSqm_mfOfTBB_3nW9xaicvKNB8Jzl8Ghpmlgcgrdm08OuyF5rehyKU8KrK4OAojYHMPTlTNi5MT4t6q7fEHY/s320/DSC_0565.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
This time I used some ribbon I had on hand rather than twill tape running it along the inside with the elastic - same as before. I used 1" elastic on this pair too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMw_ipHuT965WNMfqIrX5pm-iCGSkKIa_p1Ti42nUUq56rmVFWzcpYOXCIt_3f7leRRvcFFsMIVgBibl_mKtkpACk5JbydG_jAQuxc4kQf0k8Yay-S4E2W3pY9TGjXmJEBvGTJeLzgrlu/s1600/DSC_0566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMw_ipHuT965WNMfqIrX5pm-iCGSkKIa_p1Ti42nUUq56rmVFWzcpYOXCIt_3f7leRRvcFFsMIVgBibl_mKtkpACk5JbydG_jAQuxc4kQf0k8Yay-S4E2W3pY9TGjXmJEBvGTJeLzgrlu/s320/DSC_0566.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I added lace to the bottom of the legs. I wanted these very feminine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR8CtXXKgt7kd05ik1vmoUoT0Fqkig1Z4bZrNPTGmKqNjP-Gnlgcb2H_fAtQDjsCVOlJCPhefFYiBu1eveCMy38CTVo9mnj_a_v61oMi9EiTxVH4BkSVSCawYhtpWeMsGwbJlIkMwmwKAq/s1600/DSC_0567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR8CtXXKgt7kd05ik1vmoUoT0Fqkig1Z4bZrNPTGmKqNjP-Gnlgcb2H_fAtQDjsCVOlJCPhefFYiBu1eveCMy38CTVo9mnj_a_v61oMi9EiTxVH4BkSVSCawYhtpWeMsGwbJlIkMwmwKAq/s320/DSC_0567.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

1. Stitch the button holes.<br />
2. Stitch the inner leg seams.<br />
3. Stitch the pockets. This will differ slightly depending on which pocket you choose.<br />
4. Serge the pant leg and turn up the hem and press. This aids in stitching the hem later.<br />
5. Stitch the side seams.<br />
6. Stitch the pant leg hems.<br />
7. Serge each top edge of the pants. And turn down the 1 1/4" allowance for the casing and press. This aids in that turn down later.<br />

I love this pattern. It was super easy with only 4 pattern pieces, front, back, sleeve and hood. The instructions were also very easy to follow.<br />
<br />
I chose this pink toile pique for the focus fabric and a pink cotton gingham for the lining.<br />
<br />
I also decided to trim the hood and the sleeves with ric rac.<br />

I love how this turned out. Just a side note. This pattern runs really large. I made the size one which is equal to an 18 mos, and it swallowed Lila who wears an 18 mos. This is more like a size 2. But it will be very room for layers and she'll get longer wear.<br />

One is a baby girl that one of my oldest and dearest friends is adopting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCo8U8GfFTRwZJT5CeyZDqrYCOmniFH8RSffEbTiN44ziWkjxNENcgdSjwRkreNgVxXbW0DbBFhFbyBduypdEfkopo1Z8GcUCZEIVfcg3l03LwfGimY3DCfXoKh3cG5tFdbrbsz2lE9RGl/s1600/DSC_0470.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCo8U8GfFTRwZJT5CeyZDqrYCOmniFH8RSffEbTiN44ziWkjxNENcgdSjwRkreNgVxXbW0DbBFhFbyBduypdEfkopo1Z8GcUCZEIVfcg3l03LwfGimY3DCfXoKh3cG5tFdbrbsz2lE9RGl/s320/DSC_0470.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The blanket is reversible with a quilting cotton (dots) on one side and flannel (owls) on the other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyvitGdY6zXYLsH4ubjk8S1Ilj75Ze8H61Se5RK4WUHArZgwuOgxzco7DdyyNKpN7K3wu-W4skugEz32xisejmA8Wq4TbmHYcknFb7DqEOEK8OXISnUR6YgDAZCBKp4Y-IT8XWsLsUGZtj/s1600/DSC_0471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyvitGdY6zXYLsH4ubjk8S1Ilj75Ze8H61Se5RK4WUHArZgwuOgxzco7DdyyNKpN7K3wu-W4skugEz32xisejmA8Wq4TbmHYcknFb7DqEOEK8OXISnUR6YgDAZCBKp4Y-IT8XWsLsUGZtj/s320/DSC_0471.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The blanket is my own creation. The contoured reversible burp cloths are from a tutorial I found on Pinterest and you can find it <a href="http://muslinandmerlot.blogspot.com/2014/02/oh-baby-part-two-contoured-burp-cloth.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The changing pad is one I've done before. It's a Bernina pattern. You can find that tutorial <a href="http://weallsew.com/changing-pad-and-pocket-by-juliette-lanvers/" target="_blank">here</a>. I used the same quilting cotton as in the blanket and a chanille fabric for the inside. I like these because it will hold a small container of wipes and a couple of diapers. I found the plastic wipe container at our local dollar store.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQbJFVWCq_90SjdbRnayh2cChAViF4AliENQfsqNtrr0MPPubAkBH8-iXDwwLB7GOgklPQ66jtICHMfPLzs5JwxFr6CIcgrHVaXtsVh27x3g-8f6iPP4zhUuRGwNLT6lLO_R0JyoJRt4QH/s1600/DSC_0472.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQbJFVWCq_90SjdbRnayh2cChAViF4AliENQfsqNtrr0MPPubAkBH8-iXDwwLB7GOgklPQ66jtICHMfPLzs5JwxFr6CIcgrHVaXtsVh27x3g-8f6iPP4zhUuRGwNLT6lLO_R0JyoJRt4QH/s320/DSC_0472.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I found the ribbon and a tutorial on the pacifier clip at The Ribbon Retreat, but I kind of did my own thing with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBcfhxuLiOGIdHGM6ZfV1DZVVo_Ru_35CeH5Azl3G7pkCj3N9NgXcSwIrJw2iMgXdOurten6ddUQRQY5Wyh_x5lrMGgqTKWGJ1B_D-dxEIuScaP2jWjstW6q7_LmIEnmy7Jw21OtZ3UCDn/s1600/DSC_0474.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBcfhxuLiOGIdHGM6ZfV1DZVVo_Ru_35CeH5Azl3G7pkCj3N9NgXcSwIrJw2iMgXdOurten6ddUQRQY5Wyh_x5lrMGgqTKWGJ1B_D-dxEIuScaP2jWjstW6q7_LmIEnmy7Jw21OtZ3UCDn/s320/DSC_0474.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
These are just a few things I've made for our newest little girl. I have several other projects in the works.<br />
<br />
And for our newest boy:<br />
<br />
Again the blanket is reversible with quilting cotton (triangles) and flannel (dots). The navy fabric is so cute for a boy, don't you think?<br />
<br />

The burps are two different styles, because I ran out of the triangle fabric and had to do some smaller ones. There is one large contoured and two smaller double contoured. And there you have it. I've have been a bit busy lately with baby sewing and loving every minute!<br />
<br />
I have a few custom orders to get through before I can get back to baby sewing. I have several things on deck for Miss Lila.<br />

<br />
This sweet baby girl turned 1 Saturday and she had to have a birthday bubble. So her surrogate Mimi went to work.<br />
<br />
I love bubbles on little girls and thought this pattern would be perfect. I used ric rac to adorn the angel sleeve version. I made the 18 mos, because there wasn't a lot of difference in overall width from the 12 to 18. I thought she could use the extra length and make it last longer than a season.<br />
<br />
The smocking plate is "Happy Birthday" by Ellen McCarn. There were three candles on the cake in the pattern, but I used only one. I had to omit some rows to make it work for this little bishop. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The colors are so bright and cheerful, don't you think?<br />
<br />
I'd definitely make this bubble again. It was really easy to put together. I used Martha's<a href="http://www.southernmatriarch.com/2009/04/seamless-pleating-tutorial.html" target="_blank"> seamless pleating method</a> and liked it a lot. I need more practice but it will become my new favorite method to pleat.<br />

<br />
<br />
If you haven't tried a class on the Craftsy platform, I encourage you to try one. They have some really good ones, and this one is no exception. It's Sew Better Bags: The Weekend Duffle by Betz White. Betz has a wonderful teaching style.<br />
<br />
There are two sizes of bags in the class, and I chose the larger. I have so much gym stuff and need the extra room when I pack a change of clothes and shoes. A pair of boots would also fit in this bag when fall arrives.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgqXVg2q2lKq8pEpclwSN8MTTfQVzzu78HOcA7Dw-TtAF6vfdOYDJ83CV-E5zGkuMlXaX7s696GyHEabhuaaW2q8Og4tBe-yGp-pGbUWvetgeEe2y70TduKi25-dLA8pwcCN4OHaAHn75F/s1600/DSC_0462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgqXVg2q2lKq8pEpclwSN8MTTfQVzzu78HOcA7Dw-TtAF6vfdOYDJ83CV-E5zGkuMlXaX7s696GyHEabhuaaW2q8Og4tBe-yGp-pGbUWvetgeEe2y70TduKi25-dLA8pwcCN4OHaAHn75F/s320/DSC_0462.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
On the outside, there are two pockets. You have a choice of a bellow style or pleated style. I chose the latter. There is also an option for magnetic snap closure or a twist lock. I wanted something easy so chose the magnetic snaps. It didn't hurt that I already had them on hand. :) The pockets are large enough to hold my work out gloves in one and my cell phone and keys in the other.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv4ndL7UYUE7bPBnL8uFATGu0ut_U0N2gvpsWDcb94wVG9PJoF2o1HavYGy1zZ112gNmFAEk1ng1KbjP_7WCtHkWJcBoWuvZzMQsDUfYEMrpGv77B8VPmpN2zJlbkj31pHJ9rY59iq47gw/s1600/DSC_0464.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv4ndL7UYUE7bPBnL8uFATGu0ut_U0N2gvpsWDcb94wVG9PJoF2o1HavYGy1zZ112gNmFAEk1ng1KbjP_7WCtHkWJcBoWuvZzMQsDUfYEMrpGv77B8VPmpN2zJlbkj31pHJ9rY59iq47gw/s320/DSC_0464.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here it is closed. That little blue pouch hold my ear buds. I'll eventually make one to match the bag. I should have just enough fabric left over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNRQ1ckj1lgbJgpl29ffPulcN1uSq2zEzpJJXTOxKXm8Lamw2tfGorIzlG3pfCXhP_AqPLMoEQBOiKVfWa4nGDEIM_nRhuWGKMsDkCNryBt_2B7WfU1C9zuSwbwmQWALwziHylKl5bP7ul/s1600/DSC_0467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNRQ1ckj1lgbJgpl29ffPulcN1uSq2zEzpJJXTOxKXm8Lamw2tfGorIzlG3pfCXhP_AqPLMoEQBOiKVfWa4nGDEIM_nRhuWGKMsDkCNryBt_2B7WfU1C9zuSwbwmQWALwziHylKl5bP7ul/s320/DSC_0467.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The inside has one zippered pocket. I keep small items in here - safety pin, money, hygiene products, etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9quwcQnpj4hIKkdQviItkrmLBkIDaiz64pglDJkR78_f0odoTF0HrDlzvtvUCZglSUCK_e9zHq89tlx_NDqH0AAU52sI4bYuTxObTW2wftTW0ccR6Oi1Yycr5ujB4ZzeaLYV7Kq2oXAe/s1600/DSC_0463.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9quwcQnpj4hIKkdQviItkrmLBkIDaiz64pglDJkR78_f0odoTF0HrDlzvtvUCZglSUCK_e9zHq89tlx_NDqH0AAU52sI4bYuTxObTW2wftTW0ccR6Oi1Yycr5ujB4ZzeaLYV7Kq2oXAe/s320/DSC_0463.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had this really large zipper on hand too. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfzl3twdmWCjujNC9JAEmBirKJk8rpEbDPxlh-tJ-0dOHhGYctyiYVV-bAewRodntn573Ph7o9iMqt6WZ8NFGdIvnJSAfRMzRvHXAJgFo7O5Izp-WhqQY17Gp-C8xNyOKwrhPbAoFAIJDt/s1600/DSC_0466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfzl3twdmWCjujNC9JAEmBirKJk8rpEbDPxlh-tJ-0dOHhGYctyiYVV-bAewRodntn573Ph7o9iMqt6WZ8NFGdIvnJSAfRMzRvHXAJgFo7O5Izp-WhqQY17Gp-C8xNyOKwrhPbAoFAIJDt/s320/DSC_0466.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
All the other hardware came from <a href="https://ohiotravelbag.com/" target="_blank">The Ohio Travel Bag Company</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0jeZEKLARm5Y7BK1krREh8kbvf6mDDBLewU7-ZobEDphnntYETWQwqIaMoSy8yBY1UhI1U0QtvYVP86_M8kOzEEEfExcbWjBOF3Yl2Z6uSkLZklNW3VBgBK4U8zgwawAA96daPZ0xDSp/s1600/DSC_0465.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0jeZEKLARm5Y7BK1krREh8kbvf6mDDBLewU7-ZobEDphnntYETWQwqIaMoSy8yBY1UhI1U0QtvYVP86_M8kOzEEEfExcbWjBOF3Yl2Z6uSkLZklNW3VBgBK4U8zgwawAA96daPZ0xDSp/s320/DSC_0465.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I really like the padded handles too. They are wide enough that I can sling it over my shoulder without using the shoulder strap and the padding is comfy on my shoulder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV8Fx9x2zzeNoATOvcc76xGKHpIRgd6rx8qgp-hzU4TFKUKV8GKL-Bvyfh9ag90IH0BWo4Q6_Vy-XXEw3vl2ab6OzQ-rT_lZ5ct_rclAFU84G8eezeqMLrLC_47-0BVcx9bw16SW_lSgA7/s1600/DSC_0468.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV8Fx9x2zzeNoATOvcc76xGKHpIRgd6rx8qgp-hzU4TFKUKV8GKL-Bvyfh9ag90IH0BWo4Q6_Vy-XXEw3vl2ab6OzQ-rT_lZ5ct_rclAFU84G8eezeqMLrLC_47-0BVcx9bw16SW_lSgA7/s320/DSC_0468.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The only thing I did differently than Betz was to set the lining in. I learned it this way on another <a href="http://justgivemeaneedle.blogspot.com/2011/09/my-new-project-amy-butler-weekender-bag.html" target="_blank">Amy Butler bag</a> I made a while ago and liked it better.<br />
<br />
The only thing I would do differently next time is shorten the shoulder strap. It is way too long for me at 5'4". I would also add an end pocket to hold my water bottle. Other than that, it has just enough pockets for all my stuff and plenty of room for just about anything else I could throw in.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My daughter, Britt, needed a new make-up bag but wanted one that would stand up when opened. I had that I use that fit the bill, but it was a little small. But I liked the shape and thought I could work with it.<br />
<br />
I measured it out and decided it needed to be 2 inches longer and 1 inch wider. I liked the height so didn't change that. If I recall, this measures 11" x 6" and 2.5" wide. <br />
<br />
And basically, it's 5 pieces. The two side pieces, the boxing, zipper facing and handle. And I added piping for even more stability. This fabric was home dec that I found at Joann's and used to make a gym bag. I'll post that one later. All pieces are interfaced. I used Pellon SF101 for the lining and fusible fleece for the outer pieces.<br />
<br />
This is the inside. That is also home dec fabric from Joann's. The outer bag and lining are constructed separately and the lining is set in and hand stitched to the zipper.<br />
<br />

<br />
It was a very simple bag to make. Sorry I didn't take pictures along the way. I wasn't sure how it would turn out. LOL<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIyVgLP0L5hcQPdmvGqmfb8emcjqqLsaUvp18ThG1Eqhw7ogIPPex0SOdy-KCUQBUnspqEa67Lihr2_3aJRS7M062La2GAbZ7b-UoNxR8-YJL6dWYlZcVEgAyKWa40LbT0pMV4gchZYbg/s1600/Drop+Cloth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIyVgLP0L5hcQPdmvGqmfb8emcjqqLsaUvp18ThG1Eqhw7ogIPPex0SOdy-KCUQBUnspqEa67Lihr2_3aJRS7M062La2GAbZ7b-UoNxR8-YJL6dWYlZcVEgAyKWa40LbT0pMV4gchZYbg/s320/Drop+Cloth.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Before you run out and buy painters drop cloths to adorn your bare windows, there are a few things you should know first. I know, I know. It's in! Just because it's in doesn't mean it's the right thing for you.<br />
<br />
I just bought 6 of these for a client who wanted a more casual look to her room. So I learned my lesson the hard way. I hope to save you the same agony.<br />
<br />
1. <b>Wash them!</b> These things stink to high heaven! I'd even wash them twice for good measure.<br />
<br />
2. <b>Remove the hem. </b> I don't recommend using the hem<b>. </b> The cloths are not straight on grain which means the hem is not on grain. Remove the hem either by ripping out the stitches or pull a thread just above and straighten the grain.<br />
<br />
3. <b>They will sometimes be stained</b>. One of mine looked like it had tire marks on it. Didn't come out in the wash, and it was on the right side of the fabric. I wound up having to use the wrong side. No biggie though. They look the same front and back.<br />
<br />
4. <b>Watch out for the seams. </b> Some of the larger cloths will come with seams. I had three different types of seams. See picture below. Yes, one had a vertical seam, the other had both vertical and horizontal, and the third had two horizontal seams (my picture does not accurately reflect seam placement on third one). Why does this matter you ask? Because when they are seamed, they are not stitched on the straight grain. Why should they be? They aren't made for drapes. Plus if you bought 9'x12' (which I did) thinking you'd have the 12' for length, you'd be wrong if you happened upon the horizontal seams. These are big bulky flat felled, double stitched seams too. They are not easy to hem. You also can't tell what you are getting until you open the package. If you must buy them, get them large enough so you have the length needed no matter what direction the seams run.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibfgU-qpCn3EaGL58Lw7QvX0qq18GF3woHPLLFzyUvu-ZVaWFplCta84X-MJTIA02M1XxXhhUJx7eY8fOlx-FXVPqt2vV_KHCFvtNiNKm1fs6nWuhdPYON55a5pEeB9B5fMVzBr51WUUaj/s1600/drop+cloths.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibfgU-qpCn3EaGL58Lw7QvX0qq18GF3woHPLLFzyUvu-ZVaWFplCta84X-MJTIA02M1XxXhhUJx7eY8fOlx-FXVPqt2vV_KHCFvtNiNKm1fs6nWuhdPYON55a5pEeB9B5fMVzBr51WUUaj/s320/drop+cloths.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. <b>Very thick fabric.</b> Better have a machine that can handle bulky seams especially if you keep the original seams. I used 4" double folded hems top and bottom and had to stitch over those seams on several of these. I wound up with 8 total panels.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. <b>They ravel! </b>I used double folded hems, so it wasn't a problem. But the raw edges need to be finished if you turn up only once. Don't cut until you are ready to stitch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. <b>Allergen. </b>If you have allergies, be cautious. I'm allergic to burlap, and these things made me itch and sneeze just like burlap.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. <b>They shrink</b>. I lost 7" in width after I washed them. I had ample length, so I didn't measure the difference.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. <b>They have lots of nubs. </b>You might like that look and that's great. Some of the nubs have loose strings, and YOU DO <b><u>NOT</u></b> want to cut or pull those strings. If you like them hanging, fine. Otherwise weave them to the back with a needle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10. <b>Different weights. </b> Lowes has 8oz and 10oz weights. I recommend the 8 oz. The 8 oz have ample weight and density. I really think the 10 oz would be overkill. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there you have it. It's a very casual look that's really in right now. Go for it if you must. It's a lot of labor to rip out those seams to straighten the grain which is my biggest concern with them. I'd rather spare all that time and buy some great linen fabric from <a href="http://www.fabrics-store.com/" target="_blank">fabrics-store</a>. My time is worth more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Feel free to ask questions or submit comments.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhswxSMOMz0hSJvoyFB9xsQ8I4zXkOVYBY1PDYH1zNbZtZ21DiYf4LxRb5LQduiLEnVJ6bmHmrIzFW4c0wLzWEVQ-hUIE-X5EK61RmV8V6QzxDSSPGVi_eUPH6CCiwoejE9h6xep19uXCB5/s1600/IMG_3810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhswxSMOMz0hSJvoyFB9xsQ8I4zXkOVYBY1PDYH1zNbZtZ21DiYf4LxRb5LQduiLEnVJ6bmHmrIzFW4c0wLzWEVQ-hUIE-X5EK61RmV8V6QzxDSSPGVi_eUPH6CCiwoejE9h6xep19uXCB5/s320/IMG_3810.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
If you are like me, you have a really difficult time stitching hem tape correctly and straight. These black pants needed hemming, and I was way too lazy to switch out the thread on my serger to get a nice finish on the raw edge. I had hem tape, but I always had difficulty getting it lined up when stitching it to the raw edge.<br />
<br />
Then a I had a light bulb moment! Do you love wonder tape as much as I do??!! Look it's 1/4" wide. And my hem tape is 1/2".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSxeHMRmUw77ALGOPbuxeQ_rrqkqQTaSqOVORL7qBk8HrpRLgtMJFoLOfHgtJk7nYR5PST3M4Y5aqnnhMXzhKCGnwXzAzllnUE1w7mpkNumWbb2F4iuaHsRKytM5ljgmztbiIPJwJzXaVu/s1600/IMG_3796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSxeHMRmUw77ALGOPbuxeQ_rrqkqQTaSqOVORL7qBk8HrpRLgtMJFoLOfHgtJk7nYR5PST3M4Y5aqnnhMXzhKCGnwXzAzllnUE1w7mpkNumWbb2F4iuaHsRKytM5ljgmztbiIPJwJzXaVu/s320/IMG_3796.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
So I had the bright idea (pun intended) to use it to line up my hem tape. Be sure to press in your hem before you start! I placed the wonder tape directly on the raw edge of my pant leg.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGD2jMg_5KiuXANWIMqSw1gMup8UPPGqvyqGPp_TftvPiVxTdFhNicQqg4oWn7RKMngP08DsoJ_v3FpqA7Xc-jIJ4pMWdAHUx4bEGVDUCEP0PMA9ioRQZVTMFeusABk4lme92xzbjAppWi/s1600/IMG_3797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGD2jMg_5KiuXANWIMqSw1gMup8UPPGqvyqGPp_TftvPiVxTdFhNicQqg4oWn7RKMngP08DsoJ_v3FpqA7Xc-jIJ4pMWdAHUx4bEGVDUCEP0PMA9ioRQZVTMFeusABk4lme92xzbjAppWi/s320/IMG_3797.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Then peeled off the paper and overlapped the edge just a smidge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4wzVDbbhsh5dDpg6HYhMOPHvidhR8i018N1Vk-whayiC07EoueB3mJvVfYlBBMdd61g0XOy8tSKUh_-Oqo-yJljQtjSxo8bNJCaIzVBjyo1SAe-GP2a8N1eq2fJE4AzXbNfoiV1Ddvetg/s1600/IMG_3798.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4wzVDbbhsh5dDpg6HYhMOPHvidhR8i018N1Vk-whayiC07EoueB3mJvVfYlBBMdd61g0XOy8tSKUh_-Oqo-yJljQtjSxo8bNJCaIzVBjyo1SAe-GP2a8N1eq2fJE4AzXbNfoiV1Ddvetg/s320/IMG_3798.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Next line up the hem tape at the inside edge of the wonder tape so the hem tape hangs off the raw edge by 1/4". Ingenious, right??!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIUPOvo_Y8oJKf5M-oKmmfFIWDWMMEE34m9CvM0XVp_7W-zcYHaXKJSojbTW0RiyojjnSqCnVaXpY1S0xlSxnRD_X2q8YnCcR8qP8HYe1rufJSy24rim2TzPcTDl60IrxqOnLnKf-6mhZ4/s1600/IMG_3799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIUPOvo_Y8oJKf5M-oKmmfFIWDWMMEE34m9CvM0XVp_7W-zcYHaXKJSojbTW0RiyojjnSqCnVaXpY1S0xlSxnRD_X2q8YnCcR8qP8HYe1rufJSy24rim2TzPcTDl60IrxqOnLnKf-6mhZ4/s320/IMG_3799.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
When you get back around to the start, place a tiny piece of wonder tape on the start of the hem tape like so.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqVZ2TWDeg4BQ81AHti9rnmlG7Xyi3rD2kAo3hxFa7o0StW9eM3EA9LwejlaYqzalxX6i-clQnjwm18girId1yDScNSjUfpS8p7_Pr_GyBJasECgYWj1FFcr1V5Sm6V-Q6s_rNWbZIZPhg/s1600/IMG_3802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqVZ2TWDeg4BQ81AHti9rnmlG7Xyi3rD2kAo3hxFa7o0StW9eM3EA9LwejlaYqzalxX6i-clQnjwm18girId1yDScNSjUfpS8p7_Pr_GyBJasECgYWj1FFcr1V5Sm6V-Q6s_rNWbZIZPhg/s320/IMG_3802.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fold over the top piece of hem tape and stick it right down on that piece of wonder tape. I know it sounds confusing with all the talk about tape. Just look at the photos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOb-CXGtGYkVxNq3am7s7E_7QULKLchtb7XVVmHWTiMmA3HE8xQnnEoyc5DJ2TmKzI_rFooCMA57OYczvTwtn6PhqJhpVrV26VF2AvS3MqNIuuF3DsdIHs_JvWCS_REzcORgSbT2_NRCPA/s1600/IMG_3803.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOb-CXGtGYkVxNq3am7s7E_7QULKLchtb7XVVmHWTiMmA3HE8xQnnEoyc5DJ2TmKzI_rFooCMA57OYczvTwtn6PhqJhpVrV26VF2AvS3MqNIuuF3DsdIHs_JvWCS_REzcORgSbT2_NRCPA/s320/IMG_3803.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is what it looks like from the wrong side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTf2laVP3o99_UKzRVWEI3_657e_v54iXAVb3SjAnrhpBzkRjoyKuUvWJAWz4WVetb5qW0N77MwWliOmL8YRZt9427VaBVwWGE9OKu43n1L89NcW0jquweQz4uRvAHPXt9uhfe0ArvGV6b/s1600/IMG_3805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTf2laVP3o99_UKzRVWEI3_657e_v54iXAVb3SjAnrhpBzkRjoyKuUvWJAWz4WVetb5qW0N77MwWliOmL8YRZt9427VaBVwWGE9OKu43n1L89NcW0jquweQz4uRvAHPXt9uhfe0ArvGV6b/s320/IMG_3805.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now take the whole thing to your sewing machine and stitch on that inside edge to attach the hem tape to the pant leg. I used a stretch stitch since these were knit pants. I really prefer some sort of zig zag stitch but a straight stitch would work too. Be sure to stitch down that folded edge of hem tape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkCfqkh2qhh2svql_vn8FR4H-1khADxGuCfRH-SCItbEjZo7zD92xvuJFqrDmRc7DMlaqwhvxEA61G4AWbHmIb2ubVd4FK0Gfg842tAG48-5fGK9vDSO7U67AlQoIHy1gCXnFXCb8Gthls/s1600/IMG_3807.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkCfqkh2qhh2svql_vn8FR4H-1khADxGuCfRH-SCItbEjZo7zD92xvuJFqrDmRc7DMlaqwhvxEA61G4AWbHmIb2ubVd4FK0Gfg842tAG48-5fGK9vDSO7U67AlQoIHy1gCXnFXCb8Gthls/s320/IMG_3807.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Now fold over your pressed hem and pin it closed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQc9g9pGwUVP8lGiKK6bKfJKIwVoQcAkOCk6goLdlZPgrlkEKrYd_5ZLSVapYerypIG4vN2uxbC12ablo7pP3iJpfnZfPcx1jYhRaNOaqIhyphenhyphenCJQFli_PvSQndWiOOd2Tk86CwTglpdNs7j/s1600/IMG_3809.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQc9g9pGwUVP8lGiKK6bKfJKIwVoQcAkOCk6goLdlZPgrlkEKrYd_5ZLSVapYerypIG4vN2uxbC12ablo7pP3iJpfnZfPcx1jYhRaNOaqIhyphenhyphenCJQFli_PvSQndWiOOd2Tk86CwTglpdNs7j/s320/IMG_3809.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And hand stitch closed or use a machine if you prefer. I like the look of hand stitched hems.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDyqLF2okr75txO_c9eAG0bOx7FrCSc6Ut85btVcRyrUKKCVTI8FA8csb16veGyJArYmZsUi8jN0RVIvT81LASCg2qwpX6KLiKGj-RcizL_wtQhODx5hgGj7B3g66f1tSi6yChMTwz4E2p/s1600/IMG_3810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDyqLF2okr75txO_c9eAG0bOx7FrCSc6Ut85btVcRyrUKKCVTI8FA8csb16veGyJArYmZsUi8jN0RVIvT81LASCg2qwpX6KLiKGj-RcizL_wtQhODx5hgGj7B3g66f1tSi6yChMTwz4E2p/s320/IMG_3810.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Now stand back and marvel at the clean look of your perfectly attached hem tape and newly hemmed pants.<br />
<br />
I hope this little trick allows you to try hem tape and not be afraid!<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by and feel free to ask questions if I failed to make anything clear.<br />

<br />
<br />
This is a micro check navy/white seersucker with white lace and tiny, red pom pom trim from my stash. I have matching panties to make but I should have those done sometime this week.<br />
<br />
I opted for a bit less patriotic look overall, so it wouldn't be just for the 4th. I found the adorable boat design on <a href="http://swakembroidery.com/">swakembroidery.com</a>. They have some awesome designs. Be sure to check them out. I do not have an embroidery machine so I just winged it manually. The blue stars are itty bitty buttons I found at <a href="http://buttons.com/">buttons.com</a>. If you are looking for unique and adorable buttons, they have them. I hand stitched these on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And if you read my previous post on how to make a back placket in a pillow case dress, you've already seen this.<br />

AngelaAngela Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08288387417097722899noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4734356778514457865.post-90345495527282353642016-04-25T13:05:00.000-04:002016-04-25T13:05:02.314-04:00Adding a placket to the back of a pillow case dress.I had seen several pillowcase dresses that tied in the back and wanted to make one. You can see the first one <a href="http://justgivemeaneedle.blogspot.com/2016/03/pillow-case-dress.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I am putting the finishing touches on Lila's July 4th dress but I thought I'd at least do a post on how to do it....or should I say how I do it.<br />
<br />
I have seen a few posts on cutting in a placket, but I thought why?? I already have a seam. Why not just use it. Maybe on a real pillowcase, it would be easier to just cut one rather than try to pick out a serged edge.<br />
<br />
I am assuming you already know your cuts and measurements, so I won't go through that. There are plenty of tutes out there on how to make the pillowcase dress. This is just for the back placket opening.<br />
<br />
First finish your raw edges. I serged mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisC1oRfghc3r9rbVMU1gmn4jKTEPlBh39jqfbjWyMOJZzg3FQgIPpSG78L3nKX41tWRs4QlZvX8vRtu__aIqNJVgTWbskkHoF5Yxbe3EZtUZ2NjKciy-oornQ-MyBSQCkgxe8Zo6N6sc3Z/s1600/DSC_0415.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisC1oRfghc3r9rbVMU1gmn4jKTEPlBh39jqfbjWyMOJZzg3FQgIPpSG78L3nKX41tWRs4QlZvX8vRtu__aIqNJVgTWbskkHoF5Yxbe3EZtUZ2NjKciy-oornQ-MyBSQCkgxe8Zo6N6sc3Z/s320/DSC_0415.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">Note: I am using a 2 1/4" ribbon for this dress, so my casing is 1 1/4"" wide. For this next part, use the measurement for your size of casing. If you are only folding over 1/2", you may only want to measure down 2". Adjust as needed for your opening.</span><br />
<br />
I measured down 4" (to allow for my extra wide casing), but you use the measurement for your casing size.<br />
Pin from that 4" down to the bottom, and stitch the seam (1/2"). Back stitch really well at that 4".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafziS2f7487sDQ4sl2IOqKEXfKRk2Af5uhT2Ckdvha4mhQnhZVhiVdMbQZsUEDe_XKnkTkj6B8GnfuOFa-MT7Zr8IapXqrdpZMzl5hJTSia45cTXki3747ES1PQIKyQN0OVIQqTfTWz6O/s1600/DSC_0417.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafziS2f7487sDQ4sl2IOqKEXfKRk2Af5uhT2Ckdvha4mhQnhZVhiVdMbQZsUEDe_XKnkTkj6B8GnfuOFa-MT7Zr8IapXqrdpZMzl5hJTSia45cTXki3747ES1PQIKyQN0OVIQqTfTWz6O/s320/DSC_0417.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Press the seam open and simply press back that same 1/2" for the 4" open section. I flipped one piece over so you can see the open part.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizJmeezUEOZom412c2xW_6xs30OpayemLrqR8kiBNYibIoFUjpdxMfO12sWAhySdr4Zji1J28wrzj19Y23Vi5FzALFpYJK6WRInCJL3mm0WU1czwZeOEx9e86e9DpsuOI6seSMNJcmFyZn/s1600/DSC_0419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizJmeezUEOZom412c2xW_6xs30OpayemLrqR8kiBNYibIoFUjpdxMfO12sWAhySdr4Zji1J28wrzj19Y23Vi5FzALFpYJK6WRInCJL3mm0WU1czwZeOEx9e86e9DpsuOI6seSMNJcmFyZn/s320/DSC_0419.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used my 1/4" presser foot and stitched down one side of that open section, across the bottom and up the other side. It will look like this. This fabric wasn't the best to do a tutorial. :(<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfiQXVAX4BCTL8zV6WqOayD1rv2760NQLle2CSvnO3WcvFR6euFmKjmob9rfrO-cxYiAJwqTJEtLgLSV-Uuh0KYsnR85Lsl1J6cb76YEhkZg6RZAM4miZ1vnAtKgSk5JmFGHvFZ2GHs7Zd/s1600/DSC_0422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfiQXVAX4BCTL8zV6WqOayD1rv2760NQLle2CSvnO3WcvFR6euFmKjmob9rfrO-cxYiAJwqTJEtLgLSV-Uuh0KYsnR85Lsl1J6cb76YEhkZg6RZAM4miZ1vnAtKgSk5JmFGHvFZ2GHs7Zd/s320/DSC_0422.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You need to find the center front. I did that by folding the dress in half at the seam line and pressing the opposite side. You can see the seam to the left in the picture below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtSoGdxR9j5AzSZB8CnGP0sVEykNn8c52vr2hNYBo4J5CABJAhxzj3CC8dqeqBBHoKqUvCLiROePy3ruHLYANHobW8XArcDi8bND0_RUxF6CEpYZWPmxyiuAQ0jWEGgfSvwgF9gOZ96p3W/s1600/DSC_0426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtSoGdxR9j5AzSZB8CnGP0sVEykNn8c52vr2hNYBo4J5CABJAhxzj3CC8dqeqBBHoKqUvCLiROePy3ruHLYANHobW8XArcDi8bND0_RUxF6CEpYZWPmxyiuAQ0jWEGgfSvwgF9gOZ96p3W/s320/DSC_0426.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next, I needed to position the front center and back center together so I could cut out the arm holes. Line up the center front fold with the back seam and pin in place all the way down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjskf0uKqGwbPnrBBM3hE4oRqJh9GAY6hZ1sxQeuKnb5IpWS6JJxEMdGc6RvodJavJefcyfCJdRJtyBKl6W0m-MrcAyQgWcZWIfeMVN7vxEZUAYmlvTfpUejpECR7c2kJ8-CcQKrzjtYVxj/s1600/DSC_0427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjskf0uKqGwbPnrBBM3hE4oRqJh9GAY6hZ1sxQeuKnb5IpWS6JJxEMdGc6RvodJavJefcyfCJdRJtyBKl6W0m-MrcAyQgWcZWIfeMVN7vxEZUAYmlvTfpUejpECR7c2kJ8-CcQKrzjtYVxj/s320/DSC_0427.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Before I could cut my arm holes, I needed to fold in my casing. I measured 1 1/2" down and pressed in my casing all the way around.<br />

Attach the binding to the arm hole curve. I used prepackaged bias tape, but you can make it if you choose. I press the binding into the curve of my arm hole to make it easier to apply.<br />

Please post questions below. My apologies for some of the darker photos. I really need better lighting in my studio.<br />

She is so, so sweet in her Easter dress, but she looks adorable no matter what she wears. The tatted headband is a bookmark pattern I had. I weaved a ribbon through the center and attached elastic on the underside. It was not my best work, so no close up! lol<br />

I know these are a bit dark, but our we had rainy weather and I couldn't get this outside for a really good picture.<br />
<br />
This is an Ellen McCarn Bishop dress with a Pat Garrison smocking plate. I've used the dress pattern many times but this is a first on the smocking plate. Both were very easy.<br />
<br />
This dress was very long, so I added 4 growth tucks at the hem to be let out as little bit gets older/bigger/taller.<br />

<br />
I am very out of practice on my picture smocking but hopefully we are going to rectify that little problem, since I have so many more ideas swirling around in my head. LOL<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPmIdwq6DSnC0RZ2dHdj3uaAjoes49lUTyzd0qfVXwZhz5MmtVrmp0yPrV9RTDfxOzF1fA8g2ii0LSoeG-e-8dNqs3xY6R1wAIKl5Qk81NfdCv88U1XxIZ4T5SrJ9LPCiwvkT8Bz4Yylaz/s1600/DSC_0401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPmIdwq6DSnC0RZ2dHdj3uaAjoes49lUTyzd0qfVXwZhz5MmtVrmp0yPrV9RTDfxOzF1fA8g2ii0LSoeG-e-8dNqs3xY6R1wAIKl5Qk81NfdCv88U1XxIZ4T5SrJ9LPCiwvkT8Bz4Yylaz/s320/DSC_0401.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also smocked some matching socks but totally forgot to get pics. You can find a tutorial on that <a href="http://sewnso.blogspot.com/2010/04/smocked-socks.html" target="_blank">here</a>. They really are super simple to do and I suspect I'll be doing many more. :)<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to get some modeled pics on Easter to share with you. Lila looks adorable in her Easter dress. She'd look cute in anything!<br />
<br />
Glad you stopped by. Feel free to leave comments or questions below.<br />

<br />
This is another little creation for baby Lila. It's still a bit big on her but it should serve her well through the summer and perhaps into next year too. I had planned some bloomers but I have set those aside for now. Sewing gremlins arrived in my sewing room as I started work on those.<br />
<br />
I love the big bows on the backs of these dresses. I saw a tutorial on one where the placket was cut into the dress. I thought that was sort of unnecessary since there is a seam already. I just turned the seam to the back and used it for the placket. I'll make another soon with some fabric I picked up yesterday and do a quick tute.<br />
<br />
I like the larger tie to keep them from falling off her shoulders. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_LYGeGQZKDlSS_zlNP5BHhMy9ESIZR-NQW6bfufWcMfU2VaXmHjwj59S-geGYvg035fF8QwrOLWbvLCWp9LCMpG_dKJdmWWbwg5EjNEGAfz6DRsUw4W8aX4HXOJcMSrDOyGORD3SF8lA/s1600/DSC_0483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_LYGeGQZKDlSS_zlNP5BHhMy9ESIZR-NQW6bfufWcMfU2VaXmHjwj59S-geGYvg035fF8QwrOLWbvLCWp9LCMpG_dKJdmWWbwg5EjNEGAfz6DRsUw4W8aX4HXOJcMSrDOyGORD3SF8lA/s320/DSC_0483.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I really wanted to applique a bunny on the front. But the bunny wasn't cooperating. Besides it would kind of limit to Spring wearing. I opted instead for these parasols that were on the Children's Corner website. I had pinned them some time ago and thought they would be perfect. These are much, much smaller than called for, but the dress is so small. Because they were so small, I wasn't able to stitch the other two lines required. It just looked wonky.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
I hope I'll get around to the bloomers at some point before next year so she'll have at least another year to wear it.<br />
<br />

This will become one of my favorite patterns. It is really versatile and so easy to make. I first saw this pattern in a SB issue many years ago and I believed it was used for a night gown, so I bought the pattern and it has laid in wait ever since. Then I saw it again in SB July/August 2011 issue using smocking and tucks and knew I had to attempt it. I did and failed miserably!! So I opted instead for simple tucks and embroidery.<br />
<br />
The tucks are 1/4" with space between each set of 3. I then machine feather stitched in the open spaces. I had this really pretty cotton lace edging and thought it would be pretty along the bottom and around the armscyes. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTHsbyR_tiOVo7QF6CXGjSq2PQY3TeDJI7Uuw9Hevo74-HxkqwqHbZZ4CViTHO1uqD2SVv3IPxBJ9LFuonS0JU59exTpmiY0jenrVTujW5ict4IineDfX5vJetLuFsVkieOKaVzjd-yOky/s1600/IMG_3432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTHsbyR_tiOVo7QF6CXGjSq2PQY3TeDJI7Uuw9Hevo74-HxkqwqHbZZ4CViTHO1uqD2SVv3IPxBJ9LFuonS0JU59exTpmiY0jenrVTujW5ict4IineDfX5vJetLuFsVkieOKaVzjd-yOky/s320/IMG_3432.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As my bad luck would have it, I also attempted horizontal tucks along the bottom. And when I ripped those out, I managed to also rip a hole in the top. It was an awful lot of work to scrap it. I used interfacing on the wrong side of the hole, then stitched ribbon across the right side bottom to cover it. Whew!! I then hand embroidered an old fashioned feather stitch in between since the ribbon just seemed out of place on its own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHeRdXd-eWlGCpZDKG_6Bn6BIkdPnmZFEN8YsMoM2tphF3TKytTBO4apjgzRkAWrVZNGUkSQqm6vOMb8ZZLO6kBnQAOIkF8iOKkl-ctlwQOwWHyYONyTEmeUMDsNC_mJrBzEp2yOfbFX17/s1600/IMG_3433.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHeRdXd-eWlGCpZDKG_6Bn6BIkdPnmZFEN8YsMoM2tphF3TKytTBO4apjgzRkAWrVZNGUkSQqm6vOMb8ZZLO6kBnQAOIkF8iOKkl-ctlwQOwWHyYONyTEmeUMDsNC_mJrBzEp2yOfbFX17/s320/IMG_3433.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was going to make the bloomers just as directed in the pattern BUT I didn't have 1/8" wide elastic and 1/4" was way too big. I decided to try several tucks at both leg openings and decided I didn't like those. So I opted for a large inverted pleat which then got ribbon ties on either side followed by some machine feather stitching to keep the folds in place. I also trimmed the legs with the same cotton lace.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2fN2Z9i1w0ptjugz3XRDZuILQ6WiOKZnn4SOe_sTYeRz4QRTINqwxefTrjbKZuuxjstGYUn0YKZ3KSXWcO27DDSaYWw9F5mW6HbGPxSZ8we9OHSl5oB7Z-K3ttRcFFEbvjizglCSFg6tD/s1600/IMG_3435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2fN2Z9i1w0ptjugz3XRDZuILQ6WiOKZnn4SOe_sTYeRz4QRTINqwxefTrjbKZuuxjstGYUn0YKZ3KSXWcO27DDSaYWw9F5mW6HbGPxSZ8we9OHSl5oB7Z-K3ttRcFFEbvjizglCSFg6tD/s320/IMG_3435.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I must say I am having so much fun sewing for the new little girl who has graced our lives. Mommy has also been very gracious to allow me to make little Lila an Easter dress. So I have a smocked bishop in the works. But I couldn't stop there. I also have a pillow case dress awaiting an applique and ruffled butt bloomers. <br />
<br />
I seriously think I have <strike>an addiction</strike> a problem. And since I've ordered more fabric, I don't see it ending anytime soon. It is so much fun sewing for a little girl again! And I get to be her adopted Mimi. It's great practice for when my own daughter decides to find her unicorn and start having some babies of her own. In due time!!<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by!! <br />

This is one of the easiest patterns I've done. It was quick, easy to understand, and it turned out so cute. This is not, however, a pattern for a newbie. The instructions were good. Don't get me wrong. But you have to know things like how to apply piping, because while they give great instructions on how to make piping, it lacks actual instruction on how/where to apply it to the garment.<br />
<br />
Also, the pattern calls for installing the elastic before doing the appliqued flowers on the panties. Take my advice and do it before. It's hard, especially on the smaller sizes, to get the fabric to lay flat under the machine. That's why my flowers are up higher than I would have liked. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTxGrXrePrGs8MlpODTEOXPo_Lv-R1fJJJ18eoIvLbXJbvuM_z1jbqsK7aFrCEsYB8wbzbokK6olxHpDpkK_8P0tVGP7iLZjOiCL2x_IUWg-9bJ6zvicx28KNhkVZQ-dkTnAP_13v5Ncwb/s1600/DSC_0471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTxGrXrePrGs8MlpODTEOXPo_Lv-R1fJJJ18eoIvLbXJbvuM_z1jbqsK7aFrCEsYB8wbzbokK6olxHpDpkK_8P0tVGP7iLZjOiCL2x_IUWg-9bJ6zvicx28KNhkVZQ-dkTnAP_13v5Ncwb/s320/DSC_0471.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It button down the back, and I loved the button placement guide. I rarely find one that I like in patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh198Gk0UJ9kEfc0J8bFMqZpKKcxk2dXiqZeK7OcUHWQaUHKr9ZZVKE_GMsuc7pGBaaUAFcyLD7OR8bjLgBqSM5llFai5tA6uk3etgzMGe0uoLsnYLc32RovBKbEw2bcd460mqyh244ScBU/s1600/DSC_0470.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh198Gk0UJ9kEfc0J8bFMqZpKKcxk2dXiqZeK7OcUHWQaUHKr9ZZVKE_GMsuc7pGBaaUAFcyLD7OR8bjLgBqSM5llFai5tA6uk3etgzMGe0uoLsnYLc32RovBKbEw2bcd460mqyh244ScBU/s320/DSC_0470.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
The scalloped hem was super easy. It's the first I've done I believe. The pattern has 2 views, one like this with the coordinating color scallops. And one that is all one color.<br />
<br />
I will definitely make this pattern again. I think so many things could be done with it.<br />

I had a request from my niece for a cross body lunch bag that would carry not only her lunch but a book as well. I found a cute tute for a <a href="http://www.rebeccamaedesigns.com/homesweethome/bento-bag-a-lunch-bag-tutorial/" target="_blank">bento bag</a> and thought it would be perfect.<br />
<br />
I simply lengthened the strap and we were in business.<br />
<br />
This is the top view.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivwcI_aErFu4lZIc1yGZ8r5w_DGygl1NNvp1UcalcPflE9LphyphenhyphenDuC1-B4XKazaSxle9mfvkTXtL2oQOBoHR5fQTnxtlJhGjMnko6YwGPxJxVwpqHzThvXLWwWP2lf_a75rI5kd2dfjdJje/s1600/337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivwcI_aErFu4lZIc1yGZ8r5w_DGygl1NNvp1UcalcPflE9LphyphenhyphenDuC1-B4XKazaSxle9mfvkTXtL2oQOBoHR5fQTnxtlJhGjMnko6YwGPxJxVwpqHzThvXLWwWP2lf_a75rI5kd2dfjdJje/s320/337.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
And top view opened.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEurvgNSMRtK4-rd7eNZLvxBRmeY8YNRlqWc0L1NTA-qqu_9wZpK6f_iiafe6MBFveAMFx6Bi-s_2aeBmAFUWKxGnqOsf42Mrs6TfGAQbDsdcFkjF8O9y-Ef_m_jChUvnocL97wzWg-uwP/s1600/338.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEurvgNSMRtK4-rd7eNZLvxBRmeY8YNRlqWc0L1NTA-qqu_9wZpK6f_iiafe6MBFveAMFx6Bi-s_2aeBmAFUWKxGnqOsf42Mrs6TfGAQbDsdcFkjF8O9y-Ef_m_jChUvnocL97wzWg-uwP/s320/338.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I liked that it completely opened for plenty of room. I used a bright red ripstop for the lining. I don't think this one was thick enough, so I'll use something different next time.<br />
<br />
I also did not like that the zipper doesn't go all the way to the edges. I couldn't find any zipper stops in town and I didn't have time to order any, but I'll do that differently if I make this bag again.<br />
<br />
I had some left over faux leather from Robbie's Halloween costume and thought it was perfect for the coordinating fabric. It's hard to see in the pic, but it's the black pieces. :)<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I really love the design of the bag and think my niece will love it. It was very easy to make, and the instructions were easy to follow. I would make this again.<br />

<br />
I finally got this to my MIL and can now show all of you! If you recall from an earlier post, I used vintage fabrics my MIL gave me that belonged to her mom and grandmother. She loved it! <br />
<br />
I have to give a huge shout out to The Quilting Gypsy, Lynette Edens, for a great job on quilting it for me.<br />

And from the back. Don't you love her choice. She had creative license on the pattern. I love what she chose.<br />

I had all of our initials monogrammed on the back along with the month and year I finished it. I also made a quilt label but didn't get a pic of that.<br />

<br />
I used this pattern quite a bit for Christmas this year. I couldn't post this pair until after Christmas since they were for my DD and she reads my blog. This is a really bright orange cotton fabric I found at Joann's and loved it. I had the white dot fabric left over from another project as well as the ribbon. I thought they all went quite well together.<br />
<br />
As usual, I shortened the length considerably then added the ruffle to the legs. If I recall correctly, I shortened by 4". I also shortened the waist, since she likes to wear them lower on the hips. These really sit high up on the waist. I shortened by 3" at first then took off another 2.5" to add the top band. Again, I'm going by memory, and that is dangerous. :)<br />
<br />
I hope your Christmas and New Year's holidays were fantastic!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are for my great-nieces for Christmas. Both are a-line dresses but the Kayla buttons at the shoulders and the Lillian buttons down the back. I used covered buttons in the same blue fabric as the ruffles and pocket binding.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had some difficulty deciding what to do with the pockets and ultimately just went with a simple pleated pocket with piping and binding at the top. Many thanks to Kathy Dykstra for the help with that.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The ruffles at the bottom were also a challenge, since this dress is lined. And there is a technique to turning it right side out which made it problematic for the ruffle. I ultimately just whipped the lining to the dress bottom at the ruffles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Lillian buttons down the back but I totally didn't get pictures! So sorry. I really wanted ruffles on the pockets, and I think these turned out okay. I have another idea for that next time that I think will work much better. I chose not to add the pleat to this one. I was so over these dresses and wanted to get them finished, so I can get them shipped to Illinois.</div>
