Keyka Lou Laptop Sleeve

This is my newest laptop case by Keyka Lou.  These things are durable and very easy to make.  I added a ruffle and ribbon flower to this one.  I used my Viking ruffler again!  Still lovin' that foot!!

Here is the inside.

I made this for a friend's daughter.  She kept Robbie for me one afternoon but wouldn't let me pay her.  You know I couldn't let that happen.  So I told her I'd get her back!!  And I did!

I actually widened this pattern by 2 inches to accommodate a 15" computer in lieu of 13" this pattern called for.  It wasn't hard at all.  Email me if you want to know how I did it.

I wanted to add a little something extra to the outside, since the ruffle just didn't seem like enough.  I thought about doing a yo-yo, and you know I'm not over those yet.  I think it's a healthy obsession.  Is there such a thing? lol  So I used the same concept and made a ribbon flower.  I'll post a tute soon on how to do that.  Note: satin ribbon is very difficult to work with as it slides all over.  Ask me how I know!  The yellow you see is satin.  And it was smaller.  That equals a pain in the patooty!

Head on over to Keyka Lou and download the pattern.  It's well worth $5!!

McCalls 3145 One Hour Wrap Skirt

I made this skirt this past summer but totally forgot to post it.  I really am not mad in this picture!!  Robbie was taking the photo, and I was concentrating on telling him what to do with the camera! LOL

This is a vintage McCalls pattern that I picked up earlier in the summer.  I have a really hard time finding age appropriate clothing in my size.  So I decided I would make my own clothes.  Let me just say it is not easy fitting oneself for clothing.  I wound up taking this one and another skirt I made (pics later) to a woman (Sue) who does all of my alterations and asked her to help me.

I am really getting the hang of knowing which size to cut out.  I try going by measurements, but that doesn't always work.  This pattern started out at a size 12 I believe based on the measurements. Doesn't that just irk you??  Why can't they make patterns the right size based on measurements??  This skirt literally fell to the floor when I put it on.  So I took it apart and used the next size down, then tweaked from there.  I finally got it just like I wanted it with a little help from Sue. Normally I would have made a muslin, but this fabric was a steal at $4 a yard.  So I have an $8 skirt!!  I love that kind of bargain.  And yes, I'll definitely make another one next summer.  I'm tossing around the idea of making one for this winter in tweed.  Not sure how that would hang though.

I have also made a pair of vintage wide legged pants but haven't found the right shoes yet.  When I have, I'll post pictures of those too.

Thanks for stopping by!

No ordinary bag!

This is a bag I just finished for my niece.  It turned out much larger than anticipated but cute nonetheless.  I found the pattern here.

It was very easy to follow.  My only very, very small complaint is that there was no closure.  Not to worry, I'm going to add a snap or button to fix that little problem.  I'm also not terribly fond of the webbing, so next time I'll use Peltex and use fabric.  I just don't like to see the stitching lines running through the webbing, and switching thread color would have been a pain in the patooty.  I also added a zippered pocket to the inside.

Here is a better picture of the straps.

I used my new Viking ruffler attachment for the ruffles on the handles.  I looooove that ruffler!!!  I might have to post a tutorial on how to use it; although, once you get the hang of it, it's easy peasy!  I can't believe I managed all these years without the ruffler.  I will never again be without it.  You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands!  LOL!  It was definitely worth the money.  I found one on Ebay.  You gotta love Ebay! A word of caution though; there are different rufflers for different Viking machines.  Be sure to get the one that fits your machine.

Oh, and one little piece of advice if you make this bag.  Use a slightly larger seam allowance on your lining.  It will produce a much better fit inside the bag.  I used a 1/4" larger seam in the lining.

I guess you can see I'm still not over my obsession with yo-yo's!  I love those things even though they take a little time when you have ton of them to do.  Luckily for me, this one only required 2!

Stop by anytime!!  I love having visitors.

Fabric Necklace

I found this pattern here.  It was super easy to make.  I used just basic knit fabric I picked up from Joann's, and the flowers came from stash fabrics.  I think my beads are a bit larger, but I wanted them a little bulky.   I should have made the ties just a tad longer.  This is for Britt for Christmas with all the UGA colors.  I may have to fight her though to keep it under the tree until then!

Happy Monday!!

Threads of Love Ministry

We are starting a chapter at our church here in Savannah.  Threads of Love makes burial gowns and preemie gowns for local hospitals.  It truly is a wonderful ministry.

I had to put together a display board for the church and for the hospital.  These are just a couple of items I've made for the board.  I'll post the burial gowns tomorrow.

This is the little bonnet.

And this is the little sleepy vest and hat that the babies in the NICU wear in the isolettes.

I have the vest fastened a little crooked.

I have another photo that I'll also post tomorrow that shows the comparison between the full term baby's gown and the preemie.

You can find out more about the Threads of Love Organization here.

Custom Gym Bag

And the inside:

I put two pockets on the outside for a water bottle and keys/cell phone and a zipper pocket inside along with another open pocket.

It's just a simple box with handles and pockets.  Very simple to make.  It took a few attempts to get the right size.  I used my sneakers as a model.  I just put them on paper and traced my first square around them.  Then I made the sides to match.

This is for Britt for her birthday.  Happy Birthday baby girl!  She reads my blog, but she already knew about it.  I had to get some input in the beginning.  :)
